PROVERBS 31 VS JUDGES 4

A Proverbs 31 woman vs a Judges 4 woman in the Bible. What are they? Which one are you?

Three Generations, One God

All my life, I’ve had more than just two parents. My grandparents moved to America to help my parents raise me and my siblings, pouring their love and care into us. As time passed, the roles reversed, and we began caring for them as they grew older. We lost my Lolo in 2010, but my Lola is still with us today. Each of them has shaped who I am, but today I want to focus on two women who have impacted me deeply: my mom and my Lola.

Three generations of Filipina, Christian women, yet we are all so different.

Proverbs 31: MY Lola

This is what every Godly woman strives to be and they are obsessed with the idea of this chapter. The church trends are going crazy with this one. Don’t get me wrong it’s so valid, I too am obsessed with it.

My Lola is sweet, soft-spoken, and calm. She taught me how to write, cook, and clean, and she embodies everything the Proverbs 31 woman represents. Verse 24 says, “She makes linen garments and sells them and supplies the merchants with sashes.” This couldn’t describe her better. She has handmade countless items for our church and even sewed my 8th-grade formal dress from scratch.

A Proverbs 31 woman is trustworthy, dependable, compassionate, generous, and resourceful—basically giving “demure.” And Lola? She is that, down to a T.

Judges 4: My mom

My mom, on the other hand… bless her. She’s strong, outspoken, fearless, and absolutely the life of the party. She taught me how to be bold in my faith and prayers. She reminds me of Deborah from Judges 4—the only female judge in Israel’s history and a prophetess.

When the people of Israel were in trouble, Deborah stepped up and led them to victory alongside Barak. In verse 9, she says, “I will go with you. But you will receive no honor in this venture, for the Lord’s victory over Sisera will be at the hands of a woman.” Deborah’s story shows courage, wisdom, resilience, and the ability to lead with authority—qualities my mom exemplifies every day.

While a Proverbs 31 woman gives “soft girl,” a Judges 4 woman is all about “boss energy,” and my mom lives this boldly.

A Blend of Both

Of course, my mom and Lola—and every woman, really—are a mix of both. I see my mom’s strength in my Lola’s quiet faith, and I see my Lola’s grace in my mom’s boldness. Some days, I wonder how they’re related; other days, I see God’s perfect design in my family.

So, What About Me?

Am I a Proverbs 31 woman like my Lola? Or a Judges 4 woman like my mom? I don’t know yet. I’d love to be both, but that’s up to my Creator. What I do know is this: three generations, so different, yet one God. One God who has taught us to love, trust, and fear Him in our own unique ways.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
